The drama on Capitol Hill might be on-going but until that gets resolved, things are in neutral.

General of the Army, Douglas MacArthur, Army Chief of Staff and Supreme Allied Commander for the Southwest Pacific during World War II and Supreme Commander of the Korean Theater until he was relieved by President Truman. In a closing Address to Congress, the General expressed his core principles, West Point maxims of "Duty, Honor, Country." He closed with this:

"Old Soldiers never die, They just fade away. . ."

That being said, where is President Biden ? Has he just faded away like MacArthur ? To be sure, the President has been "fading away" for some time, if not from the beginning; what has been making news is the efforts by the White House to conceal Biden condition. This is the reason why the President cannot hold regular news conferences. Biden cannot Cabinet meetings or he has the Secretaries compose questions in advance and the President is provided cue cards.


What has taken place over the last four years that would recommend Biden's detioration ? Of all the things that went wrong in the Biden Presidency, from the money-laundering charges that the President for which he could have been impeached. Biden never had any idea of economics, "Biden Omics being his watch word. He authorized inflation-causing legislation. However, the President never gave up.


Then there is foreign policy and the disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal that also closed Bagram Air Base and all the material left behind. Thirteen service members were killed in the chaos of the American pullout. That probably set the stage for Ukraine and Israel and why there is tension across the Taiwan Strait.


The question now becomes what the President knew and when did he knew it. Or, if he knew anything at all. Who had been in charge in lieu of Presidential authority. White House staffers with veterans from the Obama years. Of course, Jill Biden was always there. But the President is now little more than a "Where's Waldo" gimmick.

(Keeping The Faith ?) Happy Memorial Day ! This is the day when the nation pauses and recognizes the contributions of the men and women that strove, and often times perished in the defense of this country. How many campaigns and battles have been seen over the years with Americans in harms way. Theirs was not a pursuit of glory, necessarily but they are remembered as such. As an example, take the Joe Rosenthal photo of the "Iwo Jima Flag-raising," February 23rd, 1945. Most people know what that is and not a few have a copy on their wall. Three of those Marines survived Iwo Jima and went on a bond tour to promote that picture. The U.S. was able to fund the rest of the War off of that drive but the Marines in question did not fare well. Siege Of The Alamo

(Siege Of The Alamo) Any visitor to Downtown San Antonio will recognize the City's most famous landmark, the Alamo. An old Spanish mission that means "Cottonwood" in English was the site where the likes of Jim Bowie, William Barrett Travis and Davy Crockett and about another 185 Texians defended the Mission and its compound for thirteen days against the Army of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana and his 5,000 troops. The garrison was finally reduced on March 6, 1836. However, the Texian defeat at the Alamo and another one at Goliad, bought time for General Sam Houston time to fall back and then face Santa Ana at San Jacinto. There, Houston's army surprised the Mexicans and yelling "Remember the Alamo, Remember Goliad !" all but wiped out the Mexican force.
