Everything old is new again. It would appear that Geico car insurance is re-turning to "So easy a caveman could do it" campaign. That sold coverage, what, thirty years ago ? Or why is there a new Joe Schmo Show contest premiering on TBS later this month. Does anyone not know that there have three other programs with the same plot (a "contestant" is placed in a reality type show but all the other "players" are actors so whatever game is rigged).


In other words, these are repeats. Today, either Mike Johnson will be re-elected Speaker of the House, or, like the Caveman Geico spot or the new Joe Schmo Show, there will be a repeat in House Republican Conference history and the question as to who would hold the Gaval remains open. So the new Congress does not get sworn, the Election does not get certified, and President Trump does not take Office.


Are the personal proclivities of certain GOP Members, dis-like of Johnson, an impatience that the Speaker and that cooperation with too many Democrats, especially over fiscal issues. Does that amount to not supporting for Speaker and all complications that would arise. That being said, for his part, Johnson is sounding optimistic.


The reality has always been the same as have been the stakes. The easiest thing is for Johson to be confirmed as Speaker so all can then follow as mandated by the Constitution. That being said, admittedly, things are tense. New Orleans just occurred and there is tension. Congressman Johnson represents the northwest corner of Louisiana as his day job. He had been the compromise choice with the departure of Speaker McCarthy. Then, if not Johnson, then who ?


Today's exercise should be straight forward and by its end, if all goes well, Johnson will have kept his position. The Congress will certified and so will President Trump. The new Trump Administration will have begun and fun things will begin to happen. But the reason why this was a crisis to begin with is that House Republicans are so few that any loss has consequences. It is now incumbent on President Trump to herd the cats to a single direction. He has proven that he is the only one who can.

(Keeping The Faith ?) Happy Memorial Day ! This is the day when the nation pauses and recognizes the contributions of the men and women that strove, and often times perished in the defense of this country. How many campaigns and battles have been seen over the years with Americans in harms way. Theirs was not a pursuit of glory, necessarily but they are remembered as such. As an example, take the Joe Rosenthal photo of the "Iwo Jima Flag-raising," February 23rd, 1945. Most people know what that is and not a few have a copy on their wall. Three of those Marines survived Iwo Jima and went on a bond tour to promote that picture. The U.S. was able to fund the rest of the War off of that drive but the Marines in question did not fare well. Siege Of The Alamo

(Siege Of The Alamo) Any visitor to Downtown San Antonio will recognize the City's most famous landmark, the Alamo. An old Spanish mission that means "Cottonwood" in English was the site where the likes of Jim Bowie, William Barrett Travis and Davy Crockett and about another 185 Texians defended the Mission and its compound for thirteen days against the Army of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana and his 5,000 troops. The garrison was finally reduced on March 6, 1836. However, the Texian defeat at the Alamo and another one at Goliad, bought time for General Sam Houston time to fall back and then face Santa Ana at San Jacinto. There, Houston's army surprised the Mexicans and yelling "Remember the Alamo, Remember Goliad !" all but wiped out the Mexican force.
