In the classic war movie Patton, there was a scene where General Patton and his aide. Colonel Codman view the aftermath of a night action where one American column engaged a German column. Patton noticed that the Germans were using carts to move the supplies and wounded. The same thing happened to Napoleon in the retreat from Moscow, carts were used in the same fashion. Then the General mused that he had almost been sent "home in disgrace. But now, he has the exact instrument, at the exact place, and at the exact time in history."


The same thing could be said of Donald Trump. Four years ago, the outgoing President was being accused of fomenting an insurrection, that Trump was throwing a tantrum, trying to commandeer a vehicle in a desperate attempt to get to Capitol Hill himself. That turned out to be a myth. President Trump left Washington without meeting with President Biden. As Air Force One ferried President Trump back to New York, his presence was seen as small.


Trump was finished. A washout. That was conventional wisdom. He never believed he lost 2020 in the first place, the so-called "Big Lie." So began the Exile of Donald Trump. He went back to the Trump Organization his original calling. For a time, Donald Trump faded, and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie became more prominent. As the Governor was fond of saying that he won as a Republican in New Jersey. President Trump lost to Joe Biden. Christie was asked if there were room for Donald Trump ?


However, it has never been in President's Trump's nature to leave things un-settled. To have un-finished business for what was at heart a businessman. So, Trump rolled the dice again. Double sixes came up and the lawfare, the trials, the assassination attempts and the hostile media. This guy had no chance in Hell of ever attaining the Presidency for a second time.


Donald J. Trump was Sworn in as the 47th President only moments ago.


What a ride ! Long-shot bets seldom pay off this big but Donald Trump has all but worked the impossible.  Day one starts when President Trump finishes his Inaugural Address. Trump has been promising a "Golden Age" and political commentary all morning is reflecting an optimism and a feeling of a new course of action.


At one point, Donald Trump went home in disgrace. He was chased out of Washington looking small. Now, Trump has the exact instrument, at the exact place, and at the exact time.

(Keeping The Faith ?) Happy Memorial Day ! This is the day when the nation pauses and recognizes the contributions of the men and women that strove, and often times perished in the defense of this country. How many campaigns and battles have been seen over the years with Americans in harms way. Theirs was not a pursuit of glory, necessarily but they are remembered as such. As an example, take the Joe Rosenthal photo of the "Iwo Jima Flag-raising," February 23rd, 1945. Most people know what that is and not a few have a copy on their wall. Three of those Marines survived Iwo Jima and went on a bond tour to promote that picture. The U.S. was able to fund the rest of the War off of that drive but the Marines in question did not fare well. Siege Of The Alamo

(Siege Of The Alamo) Any visitor to Downtown San Antonio will recognize the City's most famous landmark, the Alamo. An old Spanish mission that means "Cottonwood" in English was the site where the likes of Jim Bowie, William Barrett Travis and Davy Crockett and about another 185 Texians defended the Mission and its compound for thirteen days against the Army of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana and his 5,000 troops. The garrison was finally reduced on March 6, 1836. However, the Texian defeat at the Alamo and another one at Goliad, bought time for General Sam Houston time to fall back and then face Santa Ana at San Jacinto. There, Houston's army surprised the Mexicans and yelling "Remember the Alamo, Remember Goliad !" all but wiped out the Mexican force.
