Tandem Bikes

(Tandem Bikes)

The sitcom The Jeffersons ran on CBS from 1975 to 1985, It had a distinctive opening theme "Moving on Up" that finishes "we finally got a piece of the pie." The pie in this case would be all the money that Congress has to pass its and Trump's agenda. That means tax cuts. That means border security. That means a resurgence in defense spending, including the development of a so-called Iron Dome missile system.

Will the pie be sufficiently large to accommodate all these varied interests, many of them competing ? President Trump has expounded his preferences to Congressional Republicans, his priority is tax cuts expansion and permeance. If there are to be two measures, the tax reform must be with the first package. There have been endless assurances from politicians that things are on schedule and the only missing from their remarks is perhaps a growing nose.

That being said, where is the Golf, Chess and Cheese Society (DOGE) ? The whole Department of Government Efficiency, itself an oxymoron, is supposed to find savings throughout the federal government. Now it is common knowledge that so much federal spending can be redundant and superfluous to the tune of billions of dollars easily, If DOGE gets to that two trillion-dollar threshold, how much of an effect of "expanding the pie"

Revenue would have never been the problem in the Trump Administration. Supply-side sources as well as what can be garnered off tariffs and fossil fuel exploitation could generate billions if not trillions. The Republicans in Congress could have deficit concerns alleviated by the dual track, the "tandem bike" in other words, working with DOGE to solve the second half of the equation, excessive government spending.

It's like being told one needs a diet. Certain items would need to be omitted why still consuming what is necessary. In a partnership that addresses revenue and spending, increasing one and decreasing the other, perhaps one could get to the Holy Grail in government outlays.

A balanced budget.
