President Trump can be the most reviled person in America today, A close second would DOGE "Director," Elon Musk. And that is a good thing as he has been adhering to his own mandate, to radically curb government spending. One such Department slated for possible elimination is the Department of Education.


The Education Department, however, has proven as durable as the cockroach. There have been previous efforts to zone it out, but none came to fruition. Could Musk's initiative be more fruitful ? That remains to be seen. However, the term "Department of Education" can be misleading. The goal of the institution is not necessarily the education of American school children, the three "R's" in other words, have not been the Department's priority. As was mentioned, the Education Department was to instruct school children how to be politically correct.


Billions of dollars are spent in the education arena every year but American children constantly lag in virtually all education metrics compared to other countries, especially China. However, an educated population is a less malleable population. None of this had been made clearer than during the covid pandemic, where most schools were closed. Years of scholastic progress was lost and the whole concept of the school year was abandoned as millions of kids had to learn on computer. They were not with their friends. Vital social development was truncated. The real tragedy is that, in retrospect, these measures were not necessary.


At the time, these were government mandates and to offer differing opinions, especially with regards to education, were rejected. Again, the larger story was being missed. Impacts on students were not largely considered. In other words, the Department of Education was a vehicle to enforce government covid protocols.


If there is bloat to be cut from government, eliminating the Education Department would be a step is the right direction. It has been President Trump's policy to re-direct Department funding to states and also to promote school choice, limiting the power of the corrupt public school system and its union. It could be a new learning experience.

(Keeping The Faith ?) Happy Memorial Day ! This is the day when the nation pauses and recognizes the contributions of the men and women that strove, and often times perished in the defense of this country. How many campaigns and battles have been seen over the years with Americans in harms way. Theirs was not a pursuit of glory, necessarily but they are remembered as such. As an example, take the Joe Rosenthal photo of the "Iwo Jima Flag-raising," February 23rd, 1945. Most people know what that is and not a few have a copy on their wall. Three of those Marines survived Iwo Jima and went on a bond tour to promote that picture. The U.S. was able to fund the rest of the War off of that drive but the Marines in question did not fare well. Siege Of The Alamo

(Siege Of The Alamo) Any visitor to Downtown San Antonio will recognize the City's most famous landmark, the Alamo. An old Spanish mission that means "Cottonwood" in English was the site where the likes of Jim Bowie, William Barrett Travis and Davy Crockett and about another 185 Texians defended the Mission and its compound for thirteen days against the Army of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana and his 5,000 troops. The garrison was finally reduced on March 6, 1836. However, the Texian defeat at the Alamo and another one at Goliad, bought time for General Sam Houston time to fall back and then face Santa Ana at San Jacinto. There, Houston's army surprised the Mexicans and yelling "Remember the Alamo, Remember Goliad !" all but wiped out the Mexican force.
