President Trump convened his first full Cabinet meeting but the "Chair," so to speak. was DOGE Director, Elon Musk. As he was standing before the assembled Secretaries and other explaining to the audience and Agency heads, as well as President Trump and Vice President Vance, that each Department would need to "cut the fat," so to speak. Musk's role in the government is unique. He is a personal assistant to Trump and his is the specific role 


Harry Hopkins had a specific role with the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Administration. He was the most visible member of a Presidency and a close advisor that President Roosevelt used as a special envoy when British Prime Minister Churchill opened discussions in the wake of Pearl Harbor and American entry into the War. However, in constructing the New Dea, there were a series of left-wing technocrats like Alger Hiss and Harry Dexter White who were in fact Soviet agents.


Elon Musk is no Soviet or Russian agent but his service to President Trump cannot be under-estimated. Musk is in the unique position because DOGE is the only mechanism that make significant spending cuts without political influence. No one in the Legislature or the Executive has the bedrock will to cut the check. Literally.


Why Musk is as vilified as the President. If Trump had stayed in real estate, if he had stayed on television, and not run for the White House, a lot of heartburn could have been avoided. If Musk had stayed at PayPal, or Tesla, or SpaceX, where he was doing very well, and, as one nominally in support of President Biden, Musk made a conversion not seen since Saul on the road to Damascus.


President Trump is a transformative figure, or at least that is he says. So is Elon Musk. However, this "partnership" lasts, it is a media fantasy that some public break-up between the two men. that could jeopardy the entire Trump program. That would be agreeable to some. But the one close to the President in this case has other ideas.

(Keeping The Faith ?) Happy Memorial Day ! This is the day when the nation pauses and recognizes the contributions of the men and women that strove, and often times perished in the defense of this country. How many campaigns and battles have been seen over the years with Americans in harms way. Theirs was not a pursuit of glory, necessarily but they are remembered as such. As an example, take the Joe Rosenthal photo of the "Iwo Jima Flag-raising," February 23rd, 1945. Most people know what that is and not a few have a copy on their wall. Three of those Marines survived Iwo Jima and went on a bond tour to promote that picture. The U.S. was able to fund the rest of the War off of that drive but the Marines in question did not fare well. Siege Of The Alamo

(Siege Of The Alamo) Any visitor to Downtown San Antonio will recognize the City's most famous landmark, the Alamo. An old Spanish mission that means "Cottonwood" in English was the site where the likes of Jim Bowie, William Barrett Travis and Davy Crockett and about another 185 Texians defended the Mission and its compound for thirteen days against the Army of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana and his 5,000 troops. The garrison was finally reduced on March 6, 1836. However, the Texian defeat at the Alamo and another one at Goliad, bought time for General Sam Houston time to fall back and then face Santa Ana at San Jacinto. There, Houston's army surprised the Mexicans and yelling "Remember the Alamo, Remember Goliad !" all but wiped out the Mexican force.
