Caesar Got Off Easy !
(Caesar Got Off Easy !)
Beware March 15th. otherwise known as the "Ides." So was the warning delivered to Roman Dictator, Julius Caesar, On the floor of the Roman Senate in 44 BCE, Caesar was stabbed close to thirty times by other Senators in the Pompey curia, the Senate chamber. After the deed was done. the Dictator wrapped his bloody togs around his body as he expired.
But the Dictator got off easy. After the event, Gaius Julius Caesar, Roman military hero and consummate politician and it fall to Octavian and Mark Antony, Caesar's heirs, fought for dominion over the Roman Republic, soon to be Empire, when in the victory of Octavian over Antony, adopted the name Augustus and became Rome's first Emperor.
In a sense, there is blood on the Floor of the United States Senate, which would leave a horrible stain as the floor had blue carpeting. Blood was spilled, nonetheless. Instead of one victim left bleeding on the Senate Floor, Senate Minority Leader Schumer in his, with eight of his Democrat Colleagues, voted to join with Republicans, to join with President Trump and by extension, Elon Musk. Senator Schumer and those that voted with him assaulted the rest of the Democrat Party.
Will it be another civil war that consumed Octavian and Antony ? Who will prevail at the next battle of Actium (a naval engagement where Antony, and Cleopatra lost) ? In the wake of Schumer's actions, and with no discernable Democrat leader, capitulation seems the only option. Really ? Capitulation to Trump after all this ?
This has been the classic "if you cannot beat them" story. Caesar was murdered because he had garnered too much power, President Trump might have said he would be a "dictator for only a day," but the way he has run the tables had made even his most vocal critics, like Senator Schumer, into supplicants.
This was a reverse assassination. In a betrayal of his Caucus, its Leader embraced the same reasoning that motivated the original conspirators in the killing of Caesar. If the threat is now President Trump. However, the President has an advantage over Juluis Caesar. Trump is seldom on the Senate Floor.
