Or bad apples. Like Lewis and Martin or Hunt and Brinkley, President Trump and Elon Musk are proving agents of chaos in their own right. And it is beyond their influence. Tesla dealerships and vehicles are being torched. To show a measure of solidarity with the DOGE Director, Trump bought a brand-new model Tesla, he plans to loan to his staff. It has been the Musk efforts at the Department of Government Efficiency in the first place. That is why the Senate under Democrat instigation will close the government this weekend.


Musk and Trump are like Horsemen of the Apocalypse. President Trump is still leveling tariffs, the latest a 200% rate on European spirits, wine and so on. Wall Street has been volatile as a result. The President has been making assumptions that the plan with the levies will accrue benefits and that the tax plan will pass. House Republicans passed the budget the other day but Democrats, in order to keep the lights on, they would need to make bread with Trump and Republicans which in the current environment is not possible.


It is like a reaction. People are burning Tesla's, vandalizing dealerships, and Senate Democrats are paralyzed to in-action instead of preventing a government closure. Would the calculation be that Republicans are usually blamed in such circumstances but on this occasion, even with media interference, in an action so simple and necessary but because politics is now the primary motivator, and all other considerations get subordinated. Democrats have been in a chastened state since the Election. Wisdom would seem to suggest that the Party become quiescent. If the Senate, Democrats and Republicans cannot see fit to pass the budget, if the DOGE reductions are less favorable than sound fiscal policy, how will Democrats expect to prevail in the future if the adjustments cannot be made now ?


Media darlings or bad apples ? For this new Trump Administration, terms like "revolution" or "golden age" are being tossed around like so many manhole covers. It is probably true that Trump is the most consequential Administrations in recent memory but to compare it to the Presidencies of Washington, Jefferson, Jackson, and others, whereas Trump is a relative amateur. In placing Musk in the DOGE role where real cuts in federal spending can be effected. This new arrangement would cause angst among many. But don't torch a Tesla.


Batteries could explode.

(Keeping The Faith ?) Happy Memorial Day ! This is the day when the nation pauses and recognizes the contributions of the men and women that strove, and often times perished in the defense of this country. How many campaigns and battles have been seen over the years with Americans in harms way. Theirs was not a pursuit of glory, necessarily but they are remembered as such. As an example, take the Joe Rosenthal photo of the "Iwo Jima Flag-raising," February 23rd, 1945. Most people know what that is and not a few have a copy on their wall. Three of those Marines survived Iwo Jima and went on a bond tour to promote that picture. The U.S. was able to fund the rest of the War off of that drive but the Marines in question did not fare well. Prime Garbage ?

(Prime Garbage ?) In the movie Down & Out in Beverly Hills , starring Nick Nolte and Richard Dreyfus, Nolte plays a Beverly Hills bum who gets taken in by Dreyfus' family. Things did not quite work out Nolte went back to the street but he wanted to take the family dog, Nolte was rummaging through some trash and telling the dog this was "prime garbage." For his part, the dog changed his mind and went back to the Dreyfus family. During the Trump event at Madison Square Garden, an opening act comedian made some remark disparaging Puerto Rico, calling it a "island of garbage." Naturally the media went to work, saying it could depress the Puerto Rican vote, especially in Pennsylvania. Then, the Island "Senator" came out and endorsed Trump.
