A constant component in the Red and then Soviet Army was the presence of a Commissar, a political officer in other words. They were the eyes and ears and mouthpiece of the Communist Party. These officers are the equivalent of Internal Affairs in most municipal police departments, not even a necessary evil.


Elon Musk is employing DOGE "representatives" across the government. Like political officers and they will answer to Musk and by extension President Trump. The "what have you done lately and name five items." That is meant to identify those who are still on the payroll and those that might be no-shows. This measure is deemed necessary because government employees is such a monolithic edifice and who is who and who gets paid and who shouldn't.


As it happens, Russian President Vladimir Putin, previously a KGB case officer, would be familiar with political officers. The 5th Directorate of the agency specialized in political police. In a related manner, what might Putin make of collapse of the U.S. Ukraine mineral deal. It has been intention of President Trump to end hostilities than President Zelenski had his episode. President Trump would be the first to tell President Zelenski that if a one deal is rejected, terms for any re-visit would be altered. The Ukrainian leader might be expressing a renewed interest in the agreement that he just publically rejected.


If the deal is salvaged, however, where does that lead the Russian President ? The re-construction of a Russian Empire, more if Putin wanted to re-assemble the nations of the Warsaw Pact. That could prove problematic as several Pact members are now in NATO. But Putin is facing the same situation as those that potentially be affected by the Department of Government Efficiency.


Accounting for actions. Whether it is for government employees or the leaders on the two sides in the Ukraine War. One way or another the war is going to end and it can either be that mineral deal or not. It will be the equivalent of a political officer to observe the whole process.

Keeping The Faith ?

(Keeping The Faith ?) Happy Memorial Day ! This is the day when the nation pauses and recognizes the contributions of the men and women that strove, and often times perished in the defense of this country. How many campaigns and battles have been seen over the years with Americans in harms way. Theirs was not a pursuit of glory, necessarily but they are remembered as such. As an example, take the Joe Rosenthal photo of the "Iwo Jima Flag-raising," February 23rd, 1945. Most people know what that is and not a few have a copy on their wall. Three of those Marines survived Iwo Jima and went on a bond tour to promote that picture. The U.S. was able to fund the rest of the War off of that drive but the Marines in question did not fare well. Siege Of The Alamo

(Siege Of The Alamo) Any visitor to Downtown San Antonio will recognize the City's most famous landmark, the Alamo. An old Spanish mission that means "Cottonwood" in English was the site where the likes of Jim Bowie, William Barrett Travis and Davy Crockett and about another 185 Texians defended the Mission and its compound for thirteen days against the Army of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana and his 5,000 troops. The garrison was finally reduced on March 6, 1836. However, the Texian defeat at the Alamo and another one at Goliad, bought time for General Sam Houston time to fall back and then face Santa Ana at San Jacinto. There, Houston's army surprised the Mexicans and yelling "Remember the Alamo, Remember Goliad !" all but wiped out the Mexican force.
