Hands off this ! A new series of anti-Trump and anti-Musk in a campaign being called "Hands Off," like off Greenland. Off Panama. Off the Courts, and so on. Vladmir Lenin had called these types of people "useful idiots." One could go father and describe them as useless idiots. Whatever the term, these people are as irrelevant now as ever.


Where were these people during the Biden Administration ? It was not like President Biden himself was "there" for any length of time. If one is discussing leadership, however, when a vacuum is created ? When a leader no longer functions, what happens ? If Biden was no longer in charge, who managed nuclear release authority ?


President Biden is as irrelevant as the Hands-Off movement. There are players like President Trump and Chinese Premier Xi. The former imposed a 54% tariff on the Peoples' Republic and Beijing is retaliating. That is the story on the surface at least. Internal Chinese affairs are heard to gauge but what if the external display of strength is masking a decline in the Chinese Communist Party ?


In the decade or so before the collapse of the Soviet Union. Soviet forces seemed un-assailable. Moscow had an arsenal of hundreds of ships and submarines, thousands of planes and tanks and a million men under arms. At the same time, however, the internal structure of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union was filled with rot. So, while the Soviets had the ability to project power, the ability to wield it proved wanting. In the end, the CPSU was able to save itself.


Chinese influence overseas is telling. Its "Road" initiatives is sending Chinese out to perform world wide infrastructure projects. That is why they have been in Panama to the chagrin of the Trump Administration. That is why the 34% plus the 20% tariff already in place combined to the 54%, President Trump re-acted angrily when Beijing imposed its own levies.


Like the Hands-Off demonstrations, the People' Republic has been reduced to responding to Trump. What might be different is the Chinese ability to afford those tariffs. If China does not grow at a certain rate, if it has low growth or is even forced into a re-cession, Premier Xi's political position could be comprised. If there is something to watch, look who remains in the Chinese inner circle. Changes there could clarify things.

(Keeping The Faith ?) Happy Memorial Day ! This is the day when the nation pauses and recognizes the contributions of the men and women that strove, and often times perished in the defense of this country. How many campaigns and battles have been seen over the years with Americans in harms way. Theirs was not a pursuit of glory, necessarily but they are remembered as such. As an example, take the Joe Rosenthal photo of the "Iwo Jima Flag-raising," February 23rd, 1945. Most people know what that is and not a few have a copy on their wall. Three of those Marines survived Iwo Jima and went on a bond tour to promote that picture. The U.S. was able to fund the rest of the War off of that drive but the Marines in question did not fare well. Prime Garbage ?

(Prime Garbage ?) In the movie Down & Out in Beverly Hills , starring Nick Nolte and Richard Dreyfus, Nolte plays a Beverly Hills bum who gets taken in by Dreyfus' family. Things did not quite work out Nolte went back to the street but he wanted to take the family dog, Nolte was rummaging through some trash and telling the dog this was "prime garbage." For his part, the dog changed his mind and went back to the Dreyfus family. During the Trump event at Madison Square Garden, an opening act comedian made some remark disparaging Puerto Rico, calling it a "island of garbage." Naturally the media went to work, saying it could depress the Puerto Rican vote, especially in Pennsylvania. Then, the Island "Senator" came out and endorsed Trump.
